Cottenham Colts Weekend Round-Up [13th April]

Here is the weekly round up of team performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams from Mini-League through to the Girls League from Saturday 13th April.

MINI LEAGUE MATCHES

Under-6s v Isleham Youth FC

Our youngest team took their first steps in match action this weekend as our new Under-6s team faced Isleham in their first proper match after training hard all year.

It was a great first game with lots of enthusiasm from the boys and full effort all round. A few more games before the season ends will see the boys all ready some more league action next season.

Great effort boys!!

Girls League

GIRLS TEAMS RESULTS

Under-10s v Coton Football Club [Friendly]

It was a tough introduction to the 9 v 9 game for the Girls as they took on a very good Coton team in a friendly ready for next season when they move up from 7 v 7.

The bigger pitch was a big factor the as girls struggled to make any impression into a solid Coton defence.

Everyone gave their all, as usual and the team can learn a lot from the way Coton played today and a few more games like this will only help the team develop for the future.

Great effort Girls!

Under-13s 1 v 4 Peterborough Sports FC

Tough game away against the top of the table side, who were clearly up for it from the off. Our girls responded well though but conceded a sloppy goal after a cross from a throw in. The defence was on call throughout the first half but when we did get forward Maddie's quick throw put Marnie through who crossed to Luka in the middle who scored to level it.

The second half was another tight affair. Cottenham pushed on more and had a good 15-minute spell in the Peterborough half but couldn't create any meaningful chances.

Peterborough broke the deadlock with 8 minutes left to play, again scoring from a quickly taken throw in. The wind went out of our sails a bit and Sports scored again after a defensive mix up and a fourth charging down a clearance. A bit of a flattering scoreline in what was a very good battle.

All the girls worked their socks off today, but Tia got Player of the Game after stepping into midfield at short notice. She didn't stop running throughout.
