Some of our girls teams headed off on the long journey down to the Devon this weekend to take part in the Exmouth Invitational Tournament.

Our two Under-13s teams plus our Under-15s are taking part in a two day tournament against locals sides in Exmouth, Devon.

It was a early start as the all the players, coaches and support staff headed off from Cottenham early on Friday morning on the 250 mile trip to their base just outside Tiverton.

Making great time and arriving in Devon, they were all soon exploring the amazing surrondings deep in South West and enjoying some wonderful home cooked food by our coaches and support team, making sure the girls were fueled up for the tournament action on Saturday.

TOURNAMENT: DAY ONE

It was another early start for the girls to get ready and back on the coach to head off to Exmouth and the first day of the tournament.

The Under-13s were taking part in a 6v6 tournament against local sides Exmouth Town and AFC Minehead. It was a great morning of action with plenty of goals.

Two Cottenham teams managed to make it to the final to ensure the Colts bought the winners trophy home, great job girls!!

While the Under-15s were taking on Paignton Villa and Marine Academy Plymouth in 9v9 games and went down to two narrow defeats after two tough games in the hot, dry pitch conditions.

Finishing off the day with a much needed trip to the nearby beach and a very cold sea to cool those hot feet after a great mornings action!

TOURNAMENT: DAY TWO

The girls were up early again and ready for another days action as we headed back to Exmouth for Day Two.

The Under-15s were in action first as they played a couple more 9 9 games against some local sides. They played some great football in th opening game and took the lead through a simple tap in for Luka after good work down the right and looked on course to take the win but conceded a late goal and come away with a draw.

The final game was another painful one as the girls put in a great shift and created lots of chances but couldnt find the finish in the smaller 9 v 9 goals, too much power in some cases! Another late goal saw them lose the game but were the better team overall. Great effort from the whole squad.

Next up were the Under-13s, both the Purples and Reds in action against teams from Watcombe and Heavitree. It was a great round robin event with all the teams competing well and making a great day of football.

With the winners taking home another trophy, the Purples started well and looked to be course to take the title but the local teams were fairing well and it was all set up for a winner takes all game when Isla struck a late leveller for the Reds to earn a draw that left the Purples with a clear task, win the last game and the title was theirs.

It was a close final game with nothing in it with seconds left but a long clearance from Robyn was hunted down by Molly and she slotted home from close range to secure the win!! Incredible finish....

Another trophy in the bag!!! Grear effort Girls...

What an incredible weekend it has been for all the girls to experience!!!

A massive thank you to all the coaches, staff, helpers, parents who have made this trip possible. It takes a big effort to organise these events and also a big thank you to our hosts in Devon and all the local teams we faced over the weekend.

Now, for long return home....think it might be a more quiet return trip!
