Here is the weekly round up of team performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams from Mini-League through to the Girls League from Saturday 30th September.
MINI LEAGUE TEAMS
Under-7s v Longstanton
The Under-7’s battled hard against a strong Longstanton team. It was great to see the boys working well as a team, passing well and moving the ball to create some great chances.
A few more goals to add to the tally and a couple of shots off the post, with some good saves from the Longstanton keepers, denied us getting a few more!
Again, the boys put in 100% effort. Well done!
GIRLS TEAMS
Under-9s v Milton Colts
The Under-9s Girls are in their very first season and are learning with every game. Today’s game showed how much they have all improved, with a complete team performance.
Everyone put in a great effort and game was full of non stop encouragement. A really even game all the way through and great to see the girls getting on the score sheet.
Well done girls!
Under-10s v Newmarket Town
The fine start to the season set by the Under-10 Girls continued today with another great team performance at home to Newmarket. Another tight game was on the cards, but the Girls put in a really tough display with some great defending and lightning quick attacks.
It was great to see some nice football on show with passing and moving throughout the whole squad and everyone supporting each other.
Great Game Girls!
Under-11s [Red] v Cambourne Town
Away to Cambourne Blue and with injury's, sickness and other commitments we had to play the game without any subs. We pushed hard at the start and had some early chances but were not able to get the ball in net, Cambourne were quick on the counter but our defence held firm.
In the second half it was end to end stuff as both looked to get on the scoresheet. Great effort from the girls with no subs to come on, can't ask anymore from them!
Under-11s [Purple] v Cambourne Town
Another great team performance from the Under-11s as they continue to be a force in the league. It was a tough match against Cambourne and the girls had to dig deep and work hard together in order to get the result they deserved. It was a tight first half with nothing in the game, but a strong second half performance, from the whole squad, helped to secure a positive result. Great effort Girls!
Under-13s 1 v 2 FC Kennett
The Under-13s Girls suffered their first defeat of the season in a tight match at home to FC Kennett. Lila was once again on the scoresheet but they went down by the odd goal in three. Great effort again and on another day they might have nicked a draw.
COLTS LEAGUE TEAMS RESULTS
Under-12s [Red] 0 v 4 Saffron Walden Under-13s [Black] 1 v 4 Swavesey Spartans [CUP]
Under-14s 12 v 1 Buckden Juniors
Under-15s [Red] 3 v 3 Cambourne Town [CUP] [5-4 Pens]
Under-16s 3 v 3 Willingham Wolves
Under-17s 2 v 1 St Ives Rangers
Finally a well earned win, first half was a great performance with Oisin opening the scoring and then after being brought down in the box, he made it 2-0 before half time. Second half got a bit scrappier as injuries and a little bit of frustration at the back forced a few players to have to cover another position.
St Ives tried to make their extra subs count, but Cottenham dug deep and kept their composure, occasional heart stopping moments at one end and then nearly finding another at the other end.
Man of the match, Oisin, not only for the 2 goals but then dropping back into midfield when I'm sure he wanted to go after his hat trick.
