Cottenham Colts Weekend Round-Up [13th Jan]

Here is the weekly round up of team performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams from Mini-League through to the Girls League from Saturday 13th January.

Under-7s v Waterbeach [Friendly]

The Under- 7’s started off the new year with a friendly against Waterbeach.

It was a great match, both sides very even and lots of goals scored.

The boys played brilliantly from start to finish never giving up, even getting a last minute goal.

We are looking forward to the rest of the season.

Under-8s v Gamilingay

After six weeks without a game, the Under-8s Red team were back on form against a tough Gamlingay side to continue their unbeaten streak.

The boys played very well with some slick passing, good movement and excellent teamwork by all.

Very proud of how far this team have come and developed over the past few season. Some great goals were scored also! Well done boys.

Under-9s v Elsenham Youth FC

A great match for our Under-9s as they took on Elsenham at home this weekend.

It was a very tight match throughout with some great teamwork on display and some well taken goals. The team has started to gel together well and lets hope they can continue their good form for the rest of the season.

Well Played Boys!!

Girls League

Under-10s v Priory Parkside

The Under-10s travelled to St. Neots for an early kick off in their first game of 2024. They have been in great form lately but faced a tough challenge against a very good Priory side.

It was a tight opening half with lots of action, passing, tackling and shots. The girls had to be at their best to stop the home side as both teams got on the score sheet. There was plenty of good play from the Colts, with the defence looking strong and they forced the home keeper to make several saves. It was a great performance from the girls and they never gave up, even when the game looked out of reach.

Great teamwork girls!!

Under-11s Girls [Purples] v Godmanchester Town FC - Youth

Good to be back and the girls were back on form today against Godmanchester.

The Colts were on the front foot from the start were able to get on the scoresheet several times before half time. There was plenty more action in the second half as more goals followed.

Another all round team performance to carry on an amazing season so far. Plenty of attacking threat in the game as the Girls supported each other very well and ensured the whole squad got plenty of touches of the ball.

Keep going Purples!!

Under-13 Girls 2 v 0 ICA Sports Football Club

2024 off to a winning start, 2-0 against ICA. Marnie and Luka with the goals, could have been more goals but we were a little unlucky in front of goal.

Martha received player of the match for her usual box to box display. No subs as well which meant players filling unfamiliar positions, Floss did really well at centre back. Leila kept a clean sheet and was solid from start to finish. Maddie and Hannah linked up really well keeping our Peterborough friends busy.

A successful morning all round!

Under-16s 0 v 2 Chesterton Eagles

The Under-16s went down to a narrow defeat as the high fyling Eagles from Chesterton were two good and ran out winners two nil.

Under-13s [Black] 7 v 1 Elsenham Youth

First game back after Christmas and the boys were looking forward to getting back on the pitch, Cottenham started off quick passing the ball around in the middle with Fin and Will running the middle of the pitch and it didn’t take long for Sam.S to play the ball though for Alfie to make it 1-0.

A few minutes later Phil makes it two with a lovely ball from Ethan on the left,

30 minutes in Elsenham unable to get hold of the ball Sam.B puts a corner in, the ball comes back to him and he drives the ball into the roof of the net 3-0.

Elsenham pull one back before half time with a long ball over the top, 3-1 at half time. Second half starts even quicker after some lovely play from Cottenham, Ethan pulls the ball across goal for Orrin to slot the ball home for 4-1, a few minutes later it’s five as Phil and Sam.S combine for Phil to get his second of the game.

Cottenham with all the possession have a corner on the left which Alfie delivers and Lucas with a lovely header into the bottom corner and makes it six.

Another break down the left and Jasper wins the ball which Ozzy picks up and plays Alfie though to make it 7-1.

Great way to start the new year!!
