Cottenham Colts Weekend Round-Up [14th Sept]

Here is the weekly round up of team performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams from Mini-League through to the Girls League from Saturday 14th September.

MINI LEAGUE MATCHES

Under-8s v Cambourne [Friendly]

The Under-8’s got another friendly in before they start their season next Saturday.

It was a good match against Cambourne with the boys really putting what they had worked on in training into the match.

There was some great passing today and lots of goals shared amongst the boys.

We are ready to start our season next week!

Well done boys!

Under-9s [Red] v Haddenham Rovers

A very tough first league game for the Under-9s Reds vs Haddenham

Haddenham started very strong but our boys did very well to stay in the game. making the leap up from 5v5, bigger pitch and the new throw in rules this was always going to be a tough start to the season.

We coped well for most of the game with some great passing and movement as well as making sure we stuck to our positions.

In the end Haddenham were too strong for the Colts but the boys never gave up.

Still very proud of the team in regards to how they adapted to the new rules.

Onto the next game!

Under-9s [Black] v Longstanton

The Under-9s Blacks began the season with a friendly away at Longstanton.

The effort, attitude and approach of all the players was first class, leading to some great pieces of play in a well contested match.

Lots to build on as we look forward to our league season starting next week.

Great effort Team!

Under-10s v Elsenham Youth FC

It was a tough first league game for the Under-10s a they travelled to Elsenham. The boys gave their all throughout the match and although the result did not go their way, they tried to play football the right way and never gave up right to the last whistle.

The team also look great in their new kit, generously sponsored by Quattro Tech Cars plus some new hoodies again sponsored by C-eco Roofing Ltd. Great to have some more local businesses' supporting the teams.

Fantastic effort lads!

Girls League

GIRLS TEAMS RESULTS

Under-9s v Godmanchester Town Youth

A battling team performance from the Under-9 girls against a strong Godmanchester side. All of our players really worked hard, tackled and tried to pass the ball when possible.

Improving every week!

Under-10s v Witchford Colts

The Girls carried on the season against a very strong Witchford side. It was a great all round team performance.

The game was played in the right spirit and very competitive throughout. The girls kept going despite the one sided score and their commitment was rewarded with a great team goal.

Lots of positives to take into next weeks cup game.

Under-11s v Fordham Dragons

The Girls were desperately unlucky today to not came away from a trip to Fordham without a positive result. An early start meant the girls needed to on it from the first whistle and started brightly in a very even game. At half time the Colts had sneaked ahead and were playing some nice passing football.

The home side battled back in the second half and it was an end to end game with chances for both sides, all played in the right spirit. Some great goals were scored and the team was very tired after giving their all.

Great effort and onto the Cup next week!

Under-12s [Purple] 0 v 4 Netherton United Youth

The girls did really well today against a good Netherton side. We asked the girls to get stuck in from the start and they did just that battling all over the pitch.

Netherton benefited from tackles that turned into through balls and scored two in the first half. We had chances with Tasharna through on three occasions but couldn't find the back of the net.

We started the second half the stronger team with Carmen having a decent effort that their keeper saved well. But we tired in the final ten minutes and Netherton took advantage scoring a couple more goals. Credit to our girls though, they battled to the end.

Player of the Game went to Ava for an incredible double save in the second half, she really put her body on the line.

Well done girls!

Under-12s [Red] 6 v 1 Brampton Spartans

Great first away win for the Red side with a comprehensive victory against Brampton.

Under-14s 9 v 0 Sawston Girls

Great performance from the girls today. Fairly one sided throughout and a chance for us to get some goals.

Having deserved a goal against Milton, Lila managed four this week and Hannah scored a hat-trick - the best a long range effort over the keeper. Bethan got her first goal for the club and Luka got on the end of a Sasha cross for her first of the season.

Player of the Match went to Elsie for more consistent work in midfield and at full back. It also marked her 100th game for the team. Our first centurion.

Well done everyone!

Under-17s 2 v 0 Chesterton Eagles

The Under-17s made it two wins from two with another victory over Chesterton.

Colts League

COLTS LEAGUE TEAMS RESULTS

Under-13s [Red] 2 v 0 Isleham Youth

A cracking first win of the season for the Under-13 Boys and a clean sheet too!

A tough trip away to Isleham was closed out nicely with a 2-0 win after a saved penalty and a brace from Joseph.

A great team effort that saw a strong performance from the back line and endless effort and good passes in midfield and upfront. A couple of new players introduced too, which was great.

Congratulations boys!

Under-15s [Red] 3 v 4 Shepreth Spitfires
