The second half proved to be much more competitive, with both teams giving their all and displaying some impressive skills.

Under-12s [Purple] 1 v 1 Haverhill Rovers

An early morning at Haverhill saw our team take to the new astro turf pitch. The surface was a good match for our girls, who started off a bit slow in the first five minutes but quickly took control of the game, creating numerous attacking opportunities. Unfortunately, we couldn't convert any of those chances, and the score remained 0-0 at halftime.
The second half was where the excitement unfolded. Cottenham broke the stalemate when Marley delivered a corner that Matilda powerfully finished from close range.
Haverhill responded almost instantly with a corner of their own, leveling the score at 1-1. Tasharna then made a break past their towering defender but was unfairly brought down just outside the box. Flo's free kick narrowly missed the target.
In the dying moments of the match, Flo's cross found Molly in a great position, but her well-struck shot was expertly saved by their goalkeeper. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. Flo was named player of the game for her solid performance on the left side.
Great job, girls!
Under-12s [Red] 1 v 2 Leverington
A narrow defeat for the Reds against Leverington
Under-14s 5 v 1 Chatteris Town

The girls were back in action after a break, facing off against Chatteris. They kicked off the game with enthusiasm, creating several opportunities but struggled to convert them into goals. However, Sasha managed to break the deadlock, completing a solo effort with a composed finish to put us ahead 1-0.
Chatteris quickly equalized with a misdirected cross that caught Leila off guard, leveling the score at 1-1. The first half was a bit chaotic, but the girls displayed remarkable resilience in the second half. Maddie set up Luka, who calmly slotted the ball into the net for a 2-1 lead. Shortly after, Hannah assisted Maddie, who scored our third goal following some impressive wing play from Bethan.
Lila sealed the victory with two expertly taken goals, bringing the final score to 5-1.
It was another solid win, and Tia earned the Player of the Game award for her consistent performance, even without her usual center-back partner, Sof who was on a mediterranean mid-season break!!
Solid result, Girls!
Under-17s 3 v 5 Thorney
The Under-17s slipped to just their second defeat in the league to top of the table Thorney in an action packed game. With games in hand the Colts still have a chance to top the table at the end of the season.

COLTS LEAGUE TEAMS RESULTS
Under-12s 0 v 6 Soham Town
Under-13s 9 v 2 Cambourne Town

Another Saturday brought another soggy pitch at the Rec, where Cottenham faced off against a friendly team, this time taking on the league leaders from Cambourne. Earlier in the season, Cambourne had handed Cottenham a heavy defeat, winning 8-1 in a match aided by strong winds.
However, Cottenham entered this game with renewed confidence, having recently secured 12 points from their last 15.
The match kicked off with Cottenham displaying impressive energy and organization, particularly in defense, where Charlie and Stan made some excellent early tackles and passes. Olly was also putting in a solid effort, helping Stan keep pace with their lightning-fast right winger. It was Olly who struck first, scoring to put Cottenham ahead 1-0 after a brilliant assist from William.
However, the lead was short-lived as Cambourne's speedy winger equalized just eight minutes in. Olly found the net again before halftime, giving Cottenham a well-deserved 2-1 advantage. Usain had another chance to score, but Kito's remarkable sprint and tackle turned the tide. Rooney also shone as a center back, contributing to a strong defensive performance, while Hayden was outstanding throughout, nearly extending the lead to 3 or 4-1 in the first half.
Cottenham's hard work paid off early in the second half, as Olly completed his hat trick, pushing the score to 3-1. In a flash, the score ballooned to 5-1 with two goals from Oscar, the second of which was a stunning strike reminiscent of both Stevie G and Trent.
Remembering their earlier defeat, Cottenham showed no signs of letting up. William added two more goals, and Henry capped it off by driving the ball into an empty net after a powerful run from Charlie. In a fitting conclusion, Olly sealed the game with the final goal, bringing the score to 9-2 as the whistle blew.
A big shoutout to the great sportsmanship displayed by both teams and their coaches!
