Here is the weekly round up of team performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams from Mini-League through to the Girls League from Saturday 18th October

UNDER-9s v Chesterton Eagles
The Under-9s team faced a formidable Chesterton side, and the boys executed some impressive plays down the wings, creating numerous crossing opportunities that allowed us to showcase our passing football.
As always, the boys put in 100% effort for a strong team performance, highlighted by beautiful passing, fantastic goals, and plenty of tackles. These boys are improving every week, and it's wonderful to witness their teamwork and the application of their training in a match setting.
The boys have now received brand new rain jackets, generously sponsored by The Product Counsel.
A big thank you to all the sponsors for their ongoing support!

UNDER-10s v Shepreth Spitfires
Another nail-biting encounter for the Under-10s today as they faced a lively Shepreth side in a match full of end-to-end action, goals, and excitement.
From the first whistle, both teams came out attacking, creating plenty of chances and keeping the spectators thoroughly entertained. The game swung back and forth throughout, with neither side willing to give an inch.
As has become their trademark in recent weeks, the Colts finished the game strongly. In the final 15 minutes, they showed real determination, energy, and teamwork to turn the momentum their way and secure another positive result.
It was an exciting contest played in fantastic spirit by both teams — full of effort, skill, and smiles.
Well done, Colts — another great performance to be proud of!

GIRLS TEAMS RESULTS

UNDER-10s v Comberton Crusaders
Well done to all the girls today — another solid performance full of determination, teamwork, and effort from start to finish. Each week, the progress is clear to see, and today was no exception.
The team started strongly, showing great energy and focus right from the first whistle. The passing in the opening half was particularly impressive, with players moving the ball confidently and linking up beautifully through midfield. There was a real sense of purpose in possession, and the girls showed how much they’re growing as a team.
Defensively, everyone played their part, staying organised and working hard to win the ball back quickly. In attack, there were some clever runs, accurate passes, and a few lovely combinations that kept the opposition under pressure.
A big highlight came from Gaia, who not only scored her first-ever goal but also played with fantastic positivity throughout. Her movement off the ball, sharp passing, and willingness to get involved in every play made her a constant threat — earning her a well-deserved Player of the Match award.
Overall, it was another step forward for the team — full of effort, commitment, and smiles.
Keep up the hard work, girls — your teamwork and spirit are really starting to shine through!

UNDER-12s 0 v 4 Cambridge City
The girls, coming off their cup victory, were back in league action facing Cambridge City Women FC. After losing a couple of players to injuries before the match, the squad was rearranged with some players taking on different positions.
The match began very tightly, as it remained for most of the game. Both teams were pressing hard but struggled to penetrate the well-organized defenses. The away team capitalized on a corner that was not cleared, resulting in a deflected shot that found its way into the bottom corner. The home side responded by pushing for an equalizer, with Zoe coming close after being set up. The score remained 1-0 at halftime.
The Colts needed to make more adjustments as they aimed to level the score. Isla made one of her trademark powerful runs, nearly assisting Evie for a goal, but the away team held their ground. Some late substitutions caused a bit of confusion, allowing City to score a few late goals, which made the final score look more one-sided than it was.
The girls put in a tremendous effort, giving their all in the game, and on another day, they might have at least secured a point.
Head ups, Girls!!

UNDER-13s [PURPLE] 2 v 1 Haverhill Rovers
It was a dramatic and unforgettable morning for debutant head coach Kelvin and assistant Scott, as the Cottenham Purples came from behind to claim a brilliant 2–1 away victory over Haverhill — a match that had everything: chaos, composure, and no shortage of nerves for the new coaching duo.
The Purples endured a shaky start, with several players still adapting to new positions and systems. Haverhill took early control and grabbed a fortunate goal in the 10th minute. Cottenham struggled to settle but began to show glimpses of their potential, growing into the game as the first half went on.
Half-time proved to be the turning point. Some passionate words of encouragement from Paige, Marley, and Molly reignited the team’s energy and belief. The Purples emerged after the break looking like a different side — pressing higher, moving the ball quicker, and showing real intent.
Their efforts were soon rewarded when Carmen threaded a perfect through ball to Molly, who finished coolly to level the score. The comeback was complete shortly after when Emi supplied a clever assist for Millie, who produced a sublime finish to make it 2–1.
From then on, it was all about determination and discipline. Cottenham defended as a unit, showing grit and togetherness to deny Haverhill any chance of a response.
By the final whistle, Kelvin and Scott had their first win — and perhaps a few extra grey hairs — but it was all worth it for a display full of fight, spirit, and growing confidence.
Well done, girls!!

UNDER-15s 2 v 3 ICA Sports Juventus
What an effort from the girls — a brave and determined performance against one of the strongest teams in the league.
ICA took the lead early on with a header from one of their many corners, but we responded superbly. Maddie levelled the score with a trademark goal, and Hannah followed up with an absolute screamer to put us 2–1 ahead at half-time.
The second half saw ICA grab an early equaliser, and despite our relentless effort and some fantastic team play, they managed to find a winner right at the death.
Although the result didn’t go our way, there was nothing but pride for our girls today. Every single player gave 100% from start to finish, showing great teamwork, resilience, and spirit throughout.
A special mention goes to Leila, who was awarded Player of the Match for her quick thinking and some brilliant saves that kept us in the game.
