Cottenham Colts Weekend Round-Up [29th Mar]

Here is the weekly round up of team performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams from Mini-League through to the Girls League from Saturday 29th March

MINI LEAGUE MATCHES

Under-8s v Witchford Colts

The Under-8s faced a formidable and well-structured Witchford team. The match was closely contested, showcasing impressive skills from both sides.

Cottenham's standout feature was their accurate passing, which resulted in several well-executed goals. It was another excellent team effort.

Many parents have noted the progress made in recent matches, and this game was likely one of our finest performances.

Let’s maintain this momentum as we head into our final game of the season.

Great job, boys

Girls League

GIRLS TEAMS RESULTS

Under-11s v Wisbech St.Mary

The girls entered their last three league matches of the season aiming to extend their unbeaten streak to ten games as they took on Wisbech St Mary.

The players were greeted with perfect weather as they kicked off under the sun, and the match began with a tightly contested start that set the tone for the entire game. Both teams were resolute, with strong defensive performances on display.

The home team came closest to breaking the deadlock with a long-range shot that grazed the post, but scoring opportunities were scarce as the first half came to a close.

The second half mirrored the first, with both teams finding it difficult to advance the ball to their forwards. The atmosphere was tense for the spectators as both sides poured their hearts into the match.

With another positive outcome, the Colts are eager to wrap up the season on a high note with just a couple of games remaining.

Well done, girls! Your determination is commendable!

Under-14s 2 v 3 Trumpington

The Under-14s went down to just their second defeat of the season as they remained in second position in the league.

The Girls were showing off their brand new kit, kindly sponsored by Tilia Homes who have been a great supporter of our girls teams for many years.

This narrow defeat to Trumpington leaves them six points off the top with just two games remaining.

COLTS LEAGUE TEAMS RESULTS

Under-13s 5 v 3 Shelford & Stapleford

Riding high after winning 7 out of their last 8 matches, the Cottenham Under-13s were in great spirits, even with the daunting 9am kickoff away at Shelford and Stapleford!

To the surprise of the coaches, particularly James, the Reds burst out of the gate and quickly took a 2-0 lead within just 5 minutes. Harry delivered a powerhouse performance, assisting both Joseph and William, who soared to deliver a powerful header that left the keeper with no chance.

The goals came too early though as we switched off a little. 3 long balls over the top saw us going 3-2 down out of nowhere, despite a colossal performance from Rooney. Yes he's from Manchester and no he's not related! Thankfully Hayden scored a long range screamer to restore parity before half time. 3-3.

The second half proved to be a tough battle, with the opposition looking threatening on counterattacks while Cottenham struggled to find that all-important goal.

With just a few minutes remaining, William's free kick into the box found Joseph, who narrowly missed a second goal. But George T was determined and seized the opportunity, smashing the ball into the net for a thrilling 4-3 lead!

A great double interception by Harry in injury time both stopped dangerous attacks but also released William who threaded the ball through to Olly. Olly raced clear and confidently lobbed to keeper to seal a deserved victory. 5-3.

It was particularly special with Danny's new coats on full display. I'm sure he enjoyed that one! Thanks Lucy for making that possible and Sarah for ordering and organising as ever.

The team’s spirit and unwavering determination were so impressive that a coach from Fulbourn, who happened to be a spectator, came over to commend the team.

A lovely gesture!
