Cottenham Colts Weekend Round-Up [7th Sept]

Here is the weekly round up of team performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams from Mini-League through to the Girls League from Saturday 20th April.

MINI LEAGUE MATCHES

Under-8s v Longstanton [Friendly]

The Under-8’s played a very competitive friendly at Longstanton. They started off very strong with some great battles in an end to end game.

The boys gave 100% from start to finish and it was a good game to prepare for the season.

Well done boys!

GIRLS TEAMS RESULTS

Under-11s v Ramsey

The girls kicked off their league season with a great all round team performance in their opening league against Ramsey. With a late kick off, both teams were faced with hot and humid conditions but the Colts started well and attacked from the opening minutes'.

It was an all action first half and the team put some great passing moves together and finished well when through on goal. The away side never gave up and it took a rock solid defence to keep the clean sheet.

Great start Girls, keep it up!!!

Under-14s 2 v 1 Milton Colts

It's always close against Milton, and proved to be the case again today. A rock hard pitch meant the game was scrappy at times, but the girls grew into the game.

Milton though took the lead with a shot that got away from Leila. Cottenham almost replied five minutes later when Martha's shot from the edge of the box struck the inside of the post, but it wasn't to be.

Cottenham started the second half well and ten minutes in Hannah won the ball in the middle, shrugged off a challenge and drove the equaliser into the bottom corner from range.

Both sides had chances, the best being Lila's chance in the box, which she smashed against the bar. With a couple of minutes left, it looked like it would finish level. But a late corner saw a goalmouth scramble that typified the game as a whole. Lila and Luka both had shots blocked before Martha poked home from two yards, picking up a cracking dead leg in the process.

It finished 2-1, and we sneaked off with all 3 points. Mentions to Sof for her battle at the back with their striker, Flossy who played nearly every outfield position we have and Bethan for a cracking debut on both wings. Player of the Game went to Lila, who plugged away up front all game, doing everything but score in the process.

Well done girls. Cracking start.

Under-17s 5 v 0 Chesterton Eagles

A good win for the Under-17s to open their league campaign against Chesterton.
