Here is the weekly round-up of performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams, spanning the Mini-League right through to the Girls League, from Saturday 17th January
It was a weekend full of commitment, teamwork, and plenty of memorable moments on the pitch. From the youngest players taking confident steps in their football journey to our older squads showing real maturity and determination, every team represented the club with pride.
Let’s take a look at how each group got on and celebrate the effort, progress, and spirit shown across the club.
MATCH REPORTS

The under 9's faced a tough Saffron Walden team in an away match. The boys kicked off the second half of the season just as they ended the first, showcasing a remarkable team effort with every player putting in hard work for one another, fulfilling their defensive duties, and executing impressive wing play that generated numerous opportunities.
Their passing was exceptional, and the off-the-ball movement facilitated timely passes.
Each player gave their all, as usual, and the boys have every reason to be proud of their performance.
Great game, Lads!

The Under-10s played out a thrilling and highly competitive game against Saffron Walden Greens in what was an entertaining contest from start to finish. Both teams showed great enthusiasm and skill, making for an exciting match enjoyed by players and spectators alike.
The second half was particularly end to end, with plenty of goals and chances at both ends of the pitch. The tempo remained high throughout, and neither side gave an inch as the game built towards a very close and dramatic finish.
Well done to the boys for showing fantastic energy, determination, and teamwork throughout the match.
Their hard work and positive attitude were rewarded in the end, and they can be very proud of their performance.

The Under-10 girls delivered a commendable performance against Girton following a lengthy break. They started off a bit rusty but gained momentum as the game progressed.
April was named player of the match, showcasing an outstanding second half with her impressive and positive runs with the ball.
Great effort, Girls!!

Despite a late postponed league match, the Under-12s still had the opportunity to play this week in a friendly against the Under-13s Purple team.
It was fantastic to see our two girls' teams competing fiercely, giving their all in the match. The contest was tightly contested, with both teams showcasing solid defense and effective attacks.
The Purples managed to secure a two-goal advantage by halftime, but the younger squad remained resilient, pushing hard to find a way back into the game. Isla and Ava.P came close to scoring, but the Purples' defense held strong, with Ava performing admirably in goal.
Overall, it was a commendable effort from both teams, and based on the action displayed during this match, both should look forward to a promising second half of the season.
Great game, Girls!

We travelled to Saffron Walden today, the team who beat us 3–0 on the opening day, and what a difference a few months have made. The first half was a tight, competitive battle with both sides working hard to create chances. Our brightest moment came when Luka slipped a lovely ball through to Maddie, who laid it off perfectly for Bethan arriving at the back post. Her shot curled just wide — a move that deserved a goal.
After the break, Cottenham really stepped up. For a good 20 minutes we pinned Saffron Walden back, playing some confident, determined football in their half and putting real pressure on their back line.
The home side defended well, and with around 15 minutes left a scrappy moment at the back allowed them to send a ball into the box. Leila reacted brilliantly to make the first save, but the striker was quick to follow up and make it 1–0.
Even then, Cottenham didn’t let heads drop. The girls pushed hard for an equaliser, showing great spirit and teamwork right to the final whistle. On balance, a draw would have been a fair reflection of two well-matched teams, but today it wasn’t to be, and Saffron Walden took the win.
There’s so much to be proud of, though. The attitude across the squad was outstanding. Sasha and Sof were praised for their work rate and commitment, and Kayla earned a thoroughly deserved Player of the Game award for a calm, composed performance where she didn’t put a foot wrong.
A narrow defeat, but full of positives — brilliant effort, great progress, and lots to build on.
Well done, girls!
