Here is the weekly round-up of performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams, spanning the Mini-League right through to the Girls League, from Saturday 22nd November.
It was a weekend full of commitment, teamwork, and plenty of memorable moments on the pitch. From the youngest players taking confident steps in their football journey to our older squads showing real maturity and determination, every team represented the club with pride.
Let’s take a look at how each group got on and celebrate the effort, progress, and spirit shown across the club.
MATCH REPORTS

The Under-9s travelled to Haddenham for a local cup derby, and from the very first whistle the match had a fantastic atmosphere. Both teams competed with great enthusiasm, and the game was played in an excellent spirit throughout.
Cottenham started brightly, settling into the match quickly and showing real confidence on the ball. Their passing was a highlight of the performance—crisp, accurate, and intelligent—which helped them build sustained spells of pressure. The boys worked hard to create numerous chances, moving the ball through the team with composure and linking up well in the final third.
Every player gave their absolute all, battling for every loose ball and supporting each other at every opportunity. By the time the final whistle blew, the boys came off the pitch beaming, clearly proud of the effort they had put in and the football they had played.
For the coaching team, it was particularly rewarding to see how far the group has come. Their growing confidence, improved decision-making, and willingness to play as a team were evident in every passage of play. The progress they are making each week really showed on the pitch, and they can take a lot of belief from this performance moving forward.
A great game, great teamwork, and a brilliant attitude all round from the Under-9s.

Well done today, girls!
Despite the biting cold morning, Cottenham put in a fantastic all-round performance full of energy, teamwork, and determination.
From the opening whistle the girls worked hard to win the ball back quickly and create promising attacks.
There were plenty of good chances throughout the early quarters, with some lovely link-up play in midfield and confident runs down the wings that kept the Trumpington defence under pressure.
As the game went on, Cottenham really began to take control. The passing became sharper, the pressing more coordinated, and the team grew stronger with each shift. By the final quarter the girls were playing their best football of the match—pushing forward with real intent, testing the goalkeeper, and finishing the game on the front foot.
Player of the Match went to Emma, who was outstanding from start to finish. Her strong running caused problems all morning, and her positive first touches set the tone for several of Cottenham’s best attacks. A brilliant, hard-working display.
A superb effort from everyone—well done girls!

The Girls battled to a hard-fought 0–0 draw against Newmarket Town in a tightly contested friendly fixture. Both sides created half-chances throughout, but strong defending and disciplined goalkeeping kept the game goalless to the final whistle.
A highlight of the day was the official launch of the Colts’ brand-new kit, proudly sponsored by Aspire Travel - Cambridge
The fresh look was well received by players and supporters alike, marking an exciting new chapter for the club.
Despite the stalemate, the Colts showed plenty of promise and will look to build on a solid performance in their next outing.
Great effort, girls!

Cottenham returned home determined to put things right after a tough 3–0 defeat away to Saffron Walden United just weeks ago. With 4th hosting 2nd in the league, everyone expected a fierce contest—and the teams delivered.
United came out strong in the first half, using the wind to their advantage and keeping Cottenham under pressure. A dangerous ball into the box wasn’t cleared, allowing the visitors to pounce and take a 1–0 lead. They controlled much of the half, but Cottenham dug in and made sure the deficit stayed at just one heading into the break.
Switching ends changed everything. Cottenham flew out of the blocks in the second half, and Emi immediately caused chaos down the right. Her strike was parried, but Molly reacted fastest, smashing home the equaliser to ignite the comeback.
Moments later, Emi struck again—bursting clear straight from the restart and this time squeezing her shot past the keeper to put Cottenham 2–1 up. The crowd erupted as momentum swung completely.
The final stages were a real battle, with chances at both ends. Cottenham’s defence showed huge heart, but sustained pressure from United eventually told as a deflected effort crept in off the keeper to make it 2–2.
The match ended level, but it was a superb, spirited display from both teams. Emi earned Player of the Game for her electric wing play and involvement in both goals.
Well done, girls—an outstanding performance against top opposition
